Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy has existed since the 1970s. Over the last twenty years, PRP has been used in such diverse medical applications as reconstructive surgery, dentistry, orthopedics, sports medicine, and pain management. When used for skin rejuvenation, PRP can provide the following benefits:

  • Reduce scars
  • Reduce wrinkles and fine lines
  • Improve the skin’s tone, texture, and coloring
  • Make pores less noticeable

Platelets are components of the blood that stimulate the healing process and the production of new cells. A concentrated dose of platelets can be used to treat a variety of skin conditions. The treatment can repair damaged skin and stimulate the production of collagen.

What Does the Treatment Involve?

During this treatment, we draw about the same amount of blood that would be used in a laboratory test. We put it in a centrifuge to separate the platelets and plasma from the rest of the blood. From there, the PRP is injected into the treatment site.

PRP for skin rejuvenation can be used on its own or in conjunction with another treatment depending on the situation. Combination treatments are often used to treat resistant scars and stretch marks.

The PRP is autologous, which means it comes from the patient’s own body. There is, therefore, no chance of an allergic reaction, and we do not have to administer any allergy tests before performing the injection treatment.

This therapy has virtually no downtime. Unlike procedures like facelifts, PRP does not involve a long recovery period. The patient, instead, can immediately resume their daily routine.

The results of a single PRP treatment can last for quite a while. The body continues producing collagen for months after the procedure, and that collagen’s effects can last a long time.
